Expert Ultrasound Scans At Newcastle Men's Health Clinic

We use ultrasound at our Blaydon clinic as part of assessment and treatment for men’s health conditions. Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive scan that uses sound waves rather than radiation.

Our in-clinic ultrasound supports two main purposes: assessing the bladder and prostate, and guiding certain procedures accurately. Where a diagnostic scan of another kind is needed, we arrange this through an established referral pathway as part of your ongoing care.

How We Use Ultrasound in Clinic

  • Bladder and Post-void Residual Assessment: An ultrasound check of how well the bladder empties, used as part of assessment for urinary symptoms (LUTS).
  • Prostate Volume Assessment: Measuring the size of the prostate to help inform assessment and management of urinary symptoms.
  • Image Guidance for Procedures: Ultrasound used during certain procedures to improve accuracy, for example when guiding an injection.

Diagnostic Scans by Referral

Some Men Require a Diagnostic Ultrasound:

For example a scrotal or testicular scan to investigate a lump, swelling, or pain. These scans are not carried out at our clinic. Where one is needed, we arrange it through a local referral pathway as part of your ongoing care, and the findings are used to guide your management with us.

Why This Matters for Your Care

Using ultrasound at the right point in your assessment means decisions about your care can be made with clearer information, and any onward investigation can be arranged promptly where it is needed.

Ultrasound at the clinic is most relevant if you are being seen for urinary symptoms or as part of another treatment pathway. If you have urinary symptoms, you may find our lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) assessment helpful. If you are being seen for scrotal pain, ultrasound may form part of the chronic scrotal pain assessment.
